Message from the Managing Director

We are all entering new territory once again in Health and Social Care across the UK. The new coalition government must make difficult decisions to reduce the country’s deficit and even though it has been stated that funding for the NHS has been ring-fenced for this year, cuts are on everyone’s mind.

Whether it’s Lord Darzi’s Next Stage Review or the new governments mandate under a different name, I believe the essence of QIPP will remain paramount.

Quality is the key. Healthcare is always challenged to further exceed patient expectations. The NHS and Social Care Teams will not get any reprieve from users of the system. Expectations are high, and they will remain there.

Innovation is a necessity. If we don’t challenge the system, how do we expect to achieve better results?

Productivity is the answer. It’s the answer to how we ensure increasing demands are serviced with limited resources. It’s fundamental to the sustainability of our great Health and Social Care system in the UK. It’s time has come.

Prevention; simply put is smart. There is no replacement for good planning and personal accountability to one’s health.

These fundamental principles align well with Strata Health’s vision in the UK.

As with any complex service delivery system, productivity can be optimized by streamlining process across all components.

This is often aided by innovative technology and results in a higher quality standards and better future planning capabilities across all stakeholders.

The final necessity is collaboration of stakeholders across the system. The potential of a group to either lay dormant and stave off change OR embrace change and continuously adapt and improve, lies within the group itself. It is leaders that must tap into the group’s aptitude for change and show them the Art of the Possible. Only then will great things be accomplished.

To truly deliver on the principles of QIPP (whatever the acronym), Health and Social Care must come together in a mutually beneficial way to create the sustainable level of change that is required to deliver a sustainable NHS.

In Canada, the health system has many similarities to the NHS. One particular difference is that health jurisdictions are ‘integrated’. This does not mean that all stakeholders work seamlessly with one another without challenge, but rather, that they are tasked to work together for the betterment of all patients.

This level of change is not easy, but it is certainly achievable. And when achieved, hugely rewarding!

Strata Health works strictly in this space – linking stakeholders along the patient journey. 2010 will be the year to embrace efficiencies across all stakeholders and we are thrilled to be working within the NHS to aid this process and deliver profound results to all involved.

Best regards,
