Mental Health & Addictions combines a broad range of services and programmes including acute in-patient care, crisis response and emergency services, urgent and short-term treatment, withdrawal management, addiction services, case management, early psychosis intervention, psychiatric out-patient services, residential housing and assisted living services.
PathWays Mental Health & Addictions coordinates the referral process by giving clinicians a real-time view of the complete inventory of services, along with admission criteria, information on their suitability for the patient in question, estimated waiting times and immediate referral. Its matching engine provides referral decision support using data from the care provider’s chosen MDS assessment to aid in making the best possible decision when transferring patients while allowing clinicians to make the final decision based on their own best judgment and experience.
As in all deployments of the Strata PathWays suite real-time reporting captures clinical trends for immediate decision support and long-term strategic resource planning.
Strata PathWays Mental Health & Addictions was developed in partnership with the Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA) and went live there in February 2008.
Vancouver Island Health was awarded the 2008 COACH Award for Innovation in the Adoption of Health Information for its contribution in the clinical design and deployment of PathWays MH&A.
Most recently, PathWays MH&A was designated as a "National Leading Practice" in the 2009 Vancouver Island Health CCHSA Accreditation Survey.
